Week of February 11, 2013
The College of the Arts and Dance Department at Cal State Long Beach (CSULB) will present Contemporary Concert 2013: A Performance of Undergraduate Choreography with four performances set for Feb. 14-16 in the university’s Martha B. Knoebel Dance Theater.
Highlighting work that has been created by undergraduate dance majors, this year’s concert will unveil 10 dance premieres, ranging from contemporary to modern dance.
“This concert delves deeply into themes of human experience and explores the communicative power of the art form of dance,” said Lorin Johnson, the concert director. “The dances are athletic, exuberant and thought-provoking.”
The student choreographers being featured include Daniel De La Rosa, Jessica Dunn, Lacy Gandenberger, Carina Hodgins, Jaimee Kadish, Tamara McCarty, Molly Matutat, Joey Navarrete, Landon Vo and Stephanie Yonkovich. The concert also includes lighting design and technical direction by Andrew N. Milhan and costume design by Liz Carpenter.
Contemporary Concert 2013 opens Thursday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m., with another performance on Friday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. The concert closes with two performances on Saturday, Feb. 16—a matinee at 2 p.m. and the closing 8 p.m. presentation.
Tickets for the concert are $20 for general admission and $16 for seniors, students (with valid ID) and Dance Resource Center members. For tickets and information, call 562/985-7000 or visit the CSULB Dance Department website.
