Two players from the Long Beach State women’s volleyball team—junior outside hitter Delainey Aigner-Swesey and sophomore opposite Bre Mackie—were named to the Big West Conference’s All-Academic Team for the fall season.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have completed one full year at their university, played in at least 50 percent of a team’s contests, and carry a cumulative grade-point average higher than 3.20.
For Aigner-Swesey, a biology major, it is the second straight year she has earned Academic All-Big West honors. On the court, she averaged 2.87 kills per set and led the team in kills before missing the last third of the season due to injury.
Mackie, a kinesiology major, played in every set during 2012 for the 49ers, averaging 1.95 kills per set and finishing third on the team with 209 total on the year. This is her first Academic All-Big West selection.
