Long Beach State (LBSU) women’s soccer player Alex Balcer has been named to the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Women’s College Scholar All-America Team. The junior defender was selected to the University Division’s Third Team.
In 2011, Balcer anchored a LBSU defense that posted a conference-leading 12 shutouts and 0.79 goals against average. The 49ers did not allow a goal en route to their second consecutive Big West Tournament title. They also blanked their first three opponents in the NCAA Tournament as they made their first-ever appearance in the Elite Eight.
In addition to starring on the defensive end, Balcer made an impact up front with one goal and four assists. The starting center back was tabbed the 2011 Big West Tournament MVP and received first-team All-Big West honors. She also garnered second-team All-West Region recognition by the NSCAA.
Balcer, who is majoring in biology/physiology, is a two-time Big West All-Academic selection and was a 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN All-Academic District 8 Third Team pick.
