LONG BEACH, Calif. California State University, Long Beach Interim President Donald J. Para today issued the following statement in reaction to Gov. Jerry Brown's signing the 2013-14 State Budget Act.
“This budget reflects an important first step toward restoring funding for California’s public universities. As we celebrate this initial down payment of a multiyear proposal to reinvest in California’s colleges and universities, it is important to understand the broader context of what our faculty, staff and students face daily on our campus. The demand to attend our university far exceeds our ability to provide students access to our classrooms, including online learning opportunities, said CSULB Interim President Donald J. Para.
“With the passage of Proposition 30, voters in our state made clear they value K-12 and higher education. Today, they can be assured that their voices were heard and we remain grateful for their action,” Para continued. “I look forward to continuing a dialogue with our locally elected officials and community leaders about how we can develop innovative ways to ensure our university has the financial resources to fully meet this extraordinary high student demand and the greater social and economic needs or our region.”
