Week of November 13, 2012
The Center for International Education at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) has announced a line-up of activities for its International Education Week, which will take place Tuesday through Friday, Nov. 13-16, at various locations on the campus.
An International Education Week Kick-Off Festival will start off the celebration on Tuesday, Nov. 13. Featuring international student organizations and education leaders as well as dance performances, the festival will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Central Plant Plaza.
Later in the day, there will be a Study Across the Globe Information Session on Africa from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Brotman Hall’s Room 201 (BH 201); and a panel on “Global Perspectives in Mathematics Education: Insights from Attending and Presenting at the International Conferences in China and South Korea” from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Multicultural Center Conference Room (FO3 basement).
On Wednesday, Nov. 14, the schedule includes an African Cultural Extravaganza, featuring a two-hour jamboree and celebration of African writing, films and dance from noon to 2 p.m. in the Beach Auditorium of the University Student Union (USU); a presentation on “A Cognitive Stylistic Approach to Mind Style in Biblical Narrative: Metaphor and Characterization in the Story of Ahitophel and Hushai” from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Multicultural Center Conference Room (FO3 basement); and a Study Across the Globe Information Session on Asia from 2 to 3 p.m. in BH 201.
Events featured on Thursday, Nov. 15, will be a Study Across the Globe Information Session on Europe from 10 to 11 a.m., BH 201; an American Language Institute Student Poster Session from 1 to 3 p.m. in USU Ballrooms A, B and C; and “Revisiting ‘Midnight’s Children’ by Salman Rushdie—A Conversation” from 5 to 7 p.m. in the University Telecommunications (UTC) Building, Room 127 with Professors Norbert Schurer, Department of English Literature, and Pravina Cooper, Department of Comparative World Literature, serving as moderators.
A Study Across the Globe Information Session on Latin America on Friday, Nov. 16, from 11 a.m. to noon in BH 201 will close out the week of activities.
International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States.
