A forum featuring candidates for the 47th Congressional District will be held Friday, Oct. 5, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Pointe at the Pyramid at Cal State Long Beach (CSULB). Participating will be 47th District candidates Gary DeLong, Long Beach city councilman; and Alan Lowenthal, state senator.
The forum is jointly sponsored by the League of Women Voters, CSULB, UCLA and their partners.

He is currently chair of the City of Long Beach Budget Oversight Committee, chairman of the Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority and the Los Cerritos Wetlands Authority, and is a member of the Board of Governors for the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Long Beach City College Foundation.
A small business owner, DeLong has more than 30 years in the telecommunications industry. He is a graduate of Cal State Dominguez Hills and University of Southern California. DeLong and his wife, Dawna, have three children.
Lowenthal is a college professor and state senator who has lived in and worked to improve the Long Beach community for more than 40 years. During his tenure as a city councilman and state legislator, he has introduced legislation to clean up the air, improve schools and universities, created tens of thousands of jobs and brought together members of both parties to solve problems facing the state and communities.
Lowenthal lives in Long Beach with his wife, Debbie; his two sons are raising their families nearby.
Community and campus members are invited to attend the forum, which will be run under League of Women Voters forum protocols. Information tables will be available in the lobby of the Pointe, but placards or signs will not be allowed in the audience. Cards and pencils will be provided to members of the audience who wish to pose questions to the candidates. Taping or filming of the event, which must be televised in entirety, must be approved prior to the event.
Parking for the event is free to community attendees in Lot 13. Those persons needing special accommodation to attend the forum should contact Elena Macias at 562/985-8816.
