Each year, more than 5,000 Southern California schoolchildren visit the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) to learn about Japanese culture and discover visual concepts through the natural environment.
To support its educational programs, the garden will host a Concert Under the Stars at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, featuring the Other Quintet, a woodwind ensemble of CSULB music students, along with a hors d’oeuvres and dessert reception.
Guests can bid on silent auction items or contribute to the Buy a Bus fund to transport school students to the garden.
The event also includes a garden-inspired exhibit by Long Beach Renaissance High School students for the Earth is Part Art program funded by the Arts Council for Long Beach, the Miller Foundation and Friends of the Japanese Garden.
Admission is $60 per person for the public and $50 for Friends of the Japanese Garden members, and complimentary parking will be provided in campus Lot 16.
